To make sure your question is clear, you're looking for a way to run Ubuntu in your Windows 7?
If that is correct; I'd suggest looking at VirtualBox and creating a Ubuntu virtual machine.

Let me know if that answers your question.

Dear Scott,

Had come across this nice site while getting lost ! Great to have come across this site. Apart from alternatives to Windows, I would like to know how to make windows 7 compatible to partition and load Ubuntu 10.04. If I am not asking these Q's in the right place, please guide me. Thanks, once again. Great fun !
Despite the name, Ikiwiki might be what you are looking for. You can turn off the ability to edit from the web, and simply allow editing via a backend revision control system like git. I am setting it up now, and although it is not perfect it sounds like it might meet your needs

Paul's reply was interesting. Ikiwiki looks interesting but I'm not sure if it would be shared hosting friendly. I might test it out out here in a few days.

I also found PWP Wiki Processor that looks semi interesting.

I would highly recommend adding the Open Shot Video Editor to your list of Alternatives. It is very extensive and is very simple. You can find it at www.openshotvideo.com.

Yes, the list needs to be updated. Right now I'm working on the technical details on how exactly I'm going to do this. As you see in my original post, I need input what would be comfortable doing.

Do you have experience with cvs/svn/git?

to learn a new system you have to change your habits.

i didn't learn Linux until I finally installed it without a separate windows partition.

i got to this point when i learned that, if I really needed to, I could virtualize any windows program inside of VirtualBox.

now that I no longer had a windows machine to revert to when I got confused, I had to start asking Google for help.

Hello,

I'm Deacon Michael and I'm in Baltimore MD. I am still using the XP version of the world's most popular Trojan Horse, namely Window$. But I am increasingly frustrated with it. I've been trying to learn Linux for several years, but I do not have a systematic method of doing this. I can't take courses at the local community college because they keep saying that I am no qualified for the courses since I do not have academic credits for the courses which I could actually teach. A later review of my transcripts from other colleges reveal that I have earned a B in one of the courses for which I am "not qualified" to take.

I have two computers which have Ubuntu on them. One of them was running for over a year, but the only thing that I really did on it was to check one of my e-mail addresses. Most of my computer time is spent in WordPerfect X3 and WordPerfect X4 and so far I have not found anything that is as powerful and does what I need to do. I also spent a considerable amount of time with Adobe PhotoShop Elements 2.

I also use Panaroma to rotate the wallpapers on my Window$ desktop in a random fashion. And I use Dreamweaver and Image Maker to create my web pages.

I am open to suggestions to make my life easier.

Thank you.

Hello, i stepped upon your page today as I was looking for alternatives to dvdrip which keeps failing on many linuxes lately. Then I looked at the site and noticed that the list could use a bit of freshen up and adding some more projects/details.

I am all up for it to help on the matter. Been a long time Linux user and still am discovering new apps as I surf.

To this effect, I registered on the forum today and will be happy to help. Let me know. Merry Christmas :)

Wondering if there's anything comparable to any of the following ToDo List organizer apps that allow you to easily tag, organize, and sort ToDo tasks in various ways and have very simple looking, elegant graphic interfaces?

Wouldn't mind paying for such as app if it did the job....

Only app that I know of that is anything like this, but is still quite different would be ThinkingRock......

Thanks for any suggestions!
